Welcome

Hi and welcome to my journal. I'm a photographer, a crafter, and a dog-lover. I invite you to discover a little more about me here and always welcome your comments.

I reside in St. Louis, Missouri with my two dogs, Jack & Daisy. I pair that love of my dogs with my photographer's eye to capture precious pooch moments for The Little Dog Smiled, my dog portrait business. I'm also an active member of the ASPCA. You'll find more of my work in photography on my site through Lollipop Smiles, a fun and wacky headshot business. And, see even more of my every day work by viewing my Flickr stream.

In addition to photography, I have a diverse background in graphic design, having worked in marketing, screen-printing and presentation development. My current work includes scrapbook design for a company called, Pink Paislee as well as my own digital scrapbook designs you can find on my website. I run Pink Ink Studios, a consignment store for designers to sell their graphic design resources to other professional photographers.

For fun, I like to make jewelry and art from my photographs. I've got a small ETSY store that you can check out too through the links above. Email me at holly@hollymccaigdesigns.com

Did You?

If so or even if you would have if you lived here in the U.S., then head over to Pink Ink Studios for something free!

Remembering Larry

My heart is aching for Andrea today. For those new to my blog, Andrea is my brother, Jake’s fiance. Last night, her sweet dog, Larry, was put to sleep. I can’t remember how old Larry was, but he was up there. In his life he suffered an injury and eventually lost the use of his back legs. He got around for years that way and always managed. Such determination in such a little body. Andrea always took Larry to the Christmas tree farm and pulled him in a wagon while she picked out their family tree. Who could resist those eyes.

This summer, they found Larry some wheels and before you knew it, Larry was taking off! She brought him over for me to photograph him one afternoon and I’m glad I did. This weekend, Larry just couldn’t fight much more. It’s so heartbreaking when you want to tell them that it’s okay to just let go because they are such amazing companions to us. So, last night, I put together Larry’s slideshow from those pictures and am honoring him.

I love you Andrea and you and your family were so great to Larry.

Bailey. The Little Dog Smiled

Last Monday, I met Kelly & Bailey! Bailey is the cutest terrier! He reminds me of Toto, and that’s awesome since The Wizard of Oz is like my top movie of all time. He wasn’t too into the camera, but still I like what I got because it just captured him. You can tell that Kelly loves him very much and I hope to get to photograph him again soon!

Here’s the slideshow of their images and of course, a few of my favorite images.

Random Blabber

Well, here’s a nice, long Sunday blog post for you. Hope you can keep your eyes open long enough.

It was a pretty hectic day on Friday as we finished up the final details on decorating the house. I ended up going with a costume that was just the bathrobe and curlers for my hair. No, no pictures. Sorry. But, I have a little video. It’s 4 minutes long, and just goes through all the outside decor. I took it before it go too dark so you could actually see things. Trust me, in the dark it was so much better.

And, shots from the night too:

Jack and Daisy even let me dress them up for a few short minutes!

My lil devil and angel! :)

I’ve had a cold, unsure how I got it, but am still holding true to my theory that I always get sick after photographing kids (or was around my young cousins at family gatherings). I just have no immune system it seems when they are in my presence. I’m not exactly miserable, which is good. Nyquil makes for awesome sleeps.

Yesterday was also an important day for my family. November 1st, my father passed away 15 years ago. I celebrate his life because you can tell I was his child. Determined, no patience and into gadgets and technology. I think he would be pretty impressed with the information age.

I didn’t do a lot yesterday. Relaxed quite a bit. However, my friends and I started up a little photo challenge called 100 Days of Moo (You). Meaning, we’re shooting ourselves in some fashion for 100 days and then will have them printed out on the 100 mini Moo cards to put into some sort of project. Anyone can join, but we’re really trying to challenge ourselves to actually keep this one up. I suck at these things and am trying. Here are my first two shots.

To join in, just click here and visit the group.

I’m also excited because Amy Kant has joined Pink Ink Studios and is creating amazingly awesome designs for photographers. You can visit her store here. I have other designers coming too! I think you’ll be in love if you’re a photographer!!!

We were going to do our family Christmas photos today, but Andrea’s sweet Larry is sick. Not well. We’re hoping things go okay for him. If you remember him, he’s the one with wheels!

Keep ‘em in your thoughts.

Now, I need to figure out what’s going on today. Like, resting and designing is in order, for sure!

Macros

This week, two new loves came into my life. A 100mm f/2.8 Macro and a Fisheye. Yes, I consider them loves! So, been practicing with my Macro. Thought I’d share a few. Hope you have a FUN and frightening night tonight!
