A Little Gift for My Readers

I made these cute little, vintage-look tags for my gifts. And, thought I’d share it with you too!

Click here to download a .PNG version with no drop shadows. Print them on card stock and cut out. Then, use a hole punch to punch the top and tie with pretty ribbon or with some old string to complete your vintage-look Christmas packages! P.S. the .PNG preview on MediaFire looks weird, but it’s all good when you download!

Unique Backdrops | Budget Shopping

Listen up, photogs! You don’t have to spend a ton of money on backdrops. In the past, I did a little article for my other website, Pink Ink Studios about something similar. But, I wanted to show you a few things and say, you don’t have to go overboard with studio backdrops.

I don’t do much in the way of full body shooting when it comes to studio work. A) I don’t have that kind of room and B) I prefer shooting on location, outdoors. BUT, I LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to offer something unique and different when I shoot headshots in studio. These are also great ideas for working with kids and babies – especially during the cold, snowy winter months.

Visit your local fabric store! Last night, I went up to my Hancocks and found this beauty 40% off. I grabbed it all. They are only about 45″ wide for upholstery fabrics. BUT, they tend to be more bigger and bolder in patterns. That’s just what I need! And, at that width, it’s easy to do a headshot!

Before that, I got my black and white damask at Artistic Fabrics up the street and used it in this shot of senior, Ashley. See how easy it is to spend a little bit to get a unique backdrop?

‘Stache Love

3132788870_a21744b205_o

I don’t know when it really started. I mean, I tend to latch on to some of the silly trends sometimes. Mustaches. Really, Holly?

They have sorta made a comeback and I can’t get enough of them. I have blogged about them before. And, as I find new products or pictures featuring the ’stache, I try to ask myself, WHY? Why do I have this thing for them? It probably has to do with my love for all things slapstick. Silly, senseless humor is funny to me.

I can remember when we thought the silly sketch on Saturday Night Live, DOG SHOW, with Molly Shannon was funny. No one else got the humor. We did. We always made Merlin put on a hat and we’d say, “DOG SHOW!” I’m sure you probably aren’t laughing either. Sorry, SNL doesn’t post this video clip online – BOO!

Of course, my love for ’staches is as big as my love for Will Ferrell. I suppose the two go hand-in-hand when you think about his movie, Anchorman.

I just can’t help myself.

I illustrated the above artwork over the holidays as a gift for my grandpa. I created it, printed it on canvas and then framed it. I love it. I want to print one out for myself. I keep saying I need to sell it on ETSY. I later used the same illustrations to make some necklaces. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you probably at one point saw the necklace I made in one of my profile pictures. Here it is after I completed it. Just shrinky dink material of the second illustrations and some woodgrain pattern overlay. It broke though. LOL I hadn’t perfected the shrink part.

As I find funny ’staches I *heart* I throw them in their very own Kaboodle list.

Wonder now, how many of my new photography clients will think I’m just plain strange? :)

DIY Ideas

Being that I’m slightly crafty, I enjoy a good idea that involves doing it yourself. I especially love a lot of the new, DIY ideas from Martha Stewart and weddings. I’m REALLY into details. I love photographing them, so when I see that a couple has put a lot of fun, unique ideas into place for their big day, that makes me giddy!

This weekend, I’m doing a little DIY stuff for my studio props: painting, sanding, crackling, drilling…ya know, normal stuff (ha). And, I figured I could dedicate a little blog post to some of my “Martha” loves on her site. Never underestimate how much fun a lot of cute, fun, details that cost so little can bring so much to your big day!

Place cards: I think these are remarkable. I wish more people did these to help you find your seat. I know for me, I’ve been to weddings where you’re walking around the tables, looking for where you’re supposed to sit. These can be at the front door, and then you can go RIGHT to your table. These are some of my most favs:

This ribbon idea for the board is cute!

I love that these are so out of the norm. And, your guests can take them with them!

And, what a CUTE idea! Costs so little with lots of scrap papers or fabrics!

Photo Ideas: I LOVE doing these types of cute, snapshots! I’m working on a fun little, self-shooting box setup to take to wedding receptions with me. Doing fun things like this gets your guests really involved and having more fun. Plus, you get some great memories from your big day.

Not as much as I would have liked to share, but it’s a busy day! Thought you’d like these little inspiring tidbits on a Sunday! ENJOY!
