I don’t do a lot of posting about family anymore on here. I don’t know why. Maybe I have just learned to keep things somewhat on a more professional level. But, then I think that I really should share more again about my life and my family. It’s what makes me different from that of big photography companies. I enjoy getting to know my clients as friends and being able to talk to them on a level that’s different from that of a sales person. I promise to do better and find a happy medium again!
But, I did want to post that today, my baby brother, Jake is starting his first day as a St. Louis City EMT. It feels like such a long road to get to where he’s been going. Then, I remind myself that he’s only 21 years old and that he graduated high school as an EMT. And that he hasn’t even been in his paramedic school a full year yet. He’s done so much to get to where he wants to be. He’s on the wait list for the city’s fire academy too. That’s a LOT to accomplish and only be 21 years old. To say that I’m proud is an understatement.
When your baby brother (15 years younger) is growing up, it’s sorta sad, but exciting. As many of my readers know, my younger sister (of six years) has since passed away. To have such a gap between two siblings like Jake and me, well, it’s not always the same growing up. Now, I can without a doubt say that we’re both adults and enjoy being together. Like grown siblings do.
I invited him to go shooting with me yesterday after one of my appointments canceled in the afternoon. A few months ago, I gave him my Canon 20D and I’ve been encouraging him to shoot a little more. I know he’s busy, but if we just get a few moments to play, I can tell he enjoys it. We went to Laumeier Sculpture park and took pictures of much of the unusual sculptures and more. It was a great day that ended with dinner and a beer. Today he starts saving the city! Okay, maybe not the entire city, but in my eyes, he’s playing a huge role in saving lives. Congrats and good luck Jake!
P.S. – this is my favorite sculpture in the park. The fisheye lens here was a perfect fit for glaring up at this monstrous man!
