Weekend Update

I really tried hard to take off this weekend, but sometimes, when you run your business, you realize that it’s just that you have business on the brain 24/7. It’s near impossible to turn off. Yesterday, I attempted to take a break. I napped in the afternoon…but not before I went to Lowe’s and Hobby Lobby to pick up things I needed for the business. Then, because I managed to nap in the afternoon, I was unable to go back to sleep last night.

So, what did I do? I paid tribute the talented, and amazing, John Hughes. So sad to see him pass. His movies were part of my youth. I purchased Sixteen Candles on iTunes and watched it in bed. I laughed at how young everyone one was. From Michael to John & Joan, to even Molly – who now has twins that just arrived. Life was so different back then. We all wanted phones in our bedrooms…now, every kid on the block starting at the young ages of 5 & 7 have cell phones (okay, maybe not all of them). But, those kids have no idea what life is even like without cell phones…let alone the Internet.

Ahhh, to be young again.

This week, I laid pretty low and worked my butt off on the new website and marketing things. I have a lot more to complete, but I know by the time I am done in a few weeks, it will be worth it. I can then just focus on shooting more and growing my business. On Tuesday, my assistant met me up at the studio and we (well, she and Stacey) managed to get things moved around. I brought in all that new vintage furniture and needed a new plan of action. We ended up having the two rooms that were already set up switched out. I’m a little sad because the green wall isn’t such a focal point anymore. I most likely won’t paint the wall the tv is on now because, well, I really need to consider looking for some bigger space next year.

The studio is what it is now…functional for shooting and meeting people. That’s the goal. I have so many ideas and just getting it ready for the colder, winter months is the plan. Today, I went up there to hang some new hooks I got for my big idea! I just didn’t have the space for the backdrop stand to be up all of the time. The legs open up to take up about a foot on each side. So, I came up with this idea. And, managed to do it all by myself. Give me the power tools! :)

And, I opted to do a little video tour of the place before I got started. I know – nothing fancy. But, it’s mine. And, I’m grateful for it and the amazing price and terms. It allows me to grow at an affordable rate. Here it is!

Jake and Andrea are coming for dinner. Hoping to get him what we need for artwork to have our Lollipop Smiles t-shirts printed for the Lot Music Festival we’ll have a booth at this month. I have tons of cute ideas for professional photographer t-shirts too. I just have to find the time to design them. Then, we’ll most likely sell them here on the website!

If you live in St. Louis and have a dog…consider bidding tomorrow on the United Way of Greater St. Louis’ online auction site! I have a session up for auction. Click here as it starts tomorrow (Monday).

And, I’m currently shopping around for some AMAZINGLY rich and funky/swanky upholstery fabrics for backdrops. I don’t want to buy some of the ones I’ve seen made already because they are too expensive for my budget. My mom sews and I really just want to find some that look awesome. If you know of any sites or local places that have them, will you share? Damask is the bestest!

Alright peeps! Hope you enjoyed your weekend.
