Thank You

Wow, I’m overwhelmed by the comments I’ve received about my story of Amanda. The day ended on a nice positive note with the family together, sharing pizza. Jake and Andrea made s’mores in the fireplace (even though we got the heater fixed!) We watched American Idol and Dr. Phil. Andrea gave me and mom Build a Bears – mom the one with the handy dandy tool belt (she’s a do it yourself type of lady) and me the scrapbook one. So sweet. Mom gave me a bear that is dressed in pink (as she knows I love that color). I was really tired and drained after writing that story. I started thinking that maybe I need to do a little more to make people aware of teen dating violence. It’s time that people hear her story and know how to prevent this sort of thing. So, I’m starting a website in Amanda’s honor. It’s http://www.amandasmemory.com. I’ve emailed a few of her friends, asking for stories – not sure where this will go and how much I will be able to dedicate so soon. But it’s a start. Again, thank you and my heart feels filled for having people care so much to say something. THANK YOU>

February 15, 2006 - 10:42 am HilaryG - What a fantastic way to honor the memory of your sister and help other people be aware of violence in relationships! I work with teenagers and I know that there are many scary, violent and controlling teen relationships. This is just the kind of information that they need...not preachy, but real and showing the pain and sadness that these relationships can bring. It is also likely that Amanda's friends, even if they don't respond positively to you (or even contact you back), need to have this opportunity to express or revisit their thoughts and feelings. This is a fantastic idea! Hilary

February 15, 2006 - 4:50 pm Stacie - I love that you are doing this Holly. The reason her story touched me is because I easily could have been your sister. I too was in a very bad relationship that could have turned out many different ways. I was one of the lucky ones though. I think it is great you are trying to make people more aware of this.

February 15, 2006 - 7:37 pm Lori Gaudreau - What a special thing you're doing to honor the memory of your sister. This will help turn something so tragic for your family into something incredibly positive for young girls in similar situations. I'll continue to have you and your family in my thoughts.

February 16, 2006 - 1:25 pm VeroNica - I just read Amanda's story and it's so touching... I don't know what to say if I'm in your place... I know it's so hard for you to tell the story specially its a very personal one. But you did an awesome way in honoring your sister so you can help others be aware of such violence. I just found your blog and I noticed awhile back that you're a family oriented one. Sorry to hear the pain you're all suffering and hoping all will calm down. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thanks so much for sharing the story...
